By this time next year, it will be thirteen. In the last decade alone, Trina has published eleven books, mostly on the history of women in comics.

The results of these tests showed reduced levels of prejudice in all but one of the participants, with the levels of difference varying significantly.In her memoir, Last Girl Standing, the 81-year-old says she intends to drop dead at her computer. A prototype of the comic book was created and tested with six students that had shown mid- to high-levels of prejudice (based off of responses to the Attitudes Towards Lesbians and Gays Scale test). The goal of this research was to determine what effect, if any, a comic book about real queer people might have on improving sexually prejudiced people’s attitudes and perceptions towards sexual minorities. This thesis examines how graphic narratives, such as comic books, can and have been used as catalysts for social change.

The need for tolerance education and ways to create empathy and connection between the dominant society and sexual minorities is quite literally a matter of life and death. From micro-aggressions and bullying in school to the denial of basic civil rights and mass-shootings targeting gay spaces, acts of sexual prejudice against members of the queer community continue to be an issue. Sexual minorities in America face a multitude of struggles in an intolerant and prejudiced society. This latter process sparked activist collectives such as Línea Verde (‘Green Line’) and Femiñetas (‘Femignettes’) which took upon themselves to raise awareness of the necessity of the IVE (the acronym for Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy in Spanish), among other issues.

The years 2015-2019 have seen a huge growth of such discussions and perspectives, coinciding with the birth of the massive Ni Una Menos (‘Not One Less’) feminist movement, which denounces femicides, and with the near-approval of the voluntary interruption of pregnancy law in 2018. The tendency of female cartoonists moving to the forefront has grown exponentially over the years and in the last 25 years the number of female cartoonists in Argentina has increased significantly. This decade saw the appearance of several important women cartoonists in tune with the growing and expansive feminist movement of the 1970s. However, since the 1980s, the Argentine comics industry has seen a change. We start with a brief historical overview: what was it like to be a minority in the Argentine comics industry? Historically, female comic creators have occupied a subordinate and even anonymous position in comparison to their male counterparts. This article aims to provide insight, through the voices of the participants, on the current state of female comic artists in Argentina.
